My name is Bobby Breffle and I was born in New York state but moved to Athens, GA, when I was 11 years old. I went to work for a family-owned restaurant in Athens named Charlie Williams Pinecrest Lodge when I was 16 in approximately 1984 (so I am giving away my age, LOL). I worked there until 2001. While there I did everything from “soup to nuts”. I started as a busboy, then cook, then catering manager, then Front of House and Catering Manager, by the time I was 20 years old I was the General Manager. Pinecrest had many aspects and revenue streams. It was a 700-seat restaurant serving BBQ, Catfish, and seafood family style. In the mid 1990’s it changed to a high-end buffet serving over 50 house made items including steak, seafood, BBQ, fish, vegetables, salad bar, and desserts. Pinecrest also had a Heavenly Ham Franchise selling spiral sliced glazed hams. Sales could reach over 7000 hams just in the month of December. Also, Pinecrest Catering Company did all aspects of off premise catering, feeding groups of 10 to 6500 people. During the 1996 Olympics, we fed 2000 youths from Germany 3 meals a day for 30 days at an FFA camp in Covington, GA. We had on-site parties and weddings as Pinecrest Lodge was situated on over 100 acres. I helped develop, design, build and open a satellite store called Pinecrest To Go. This later was developed into a franchise, Charlie’s Franchising Company of which I was President. I did everything there is to do in the food business. In case you thought I wasn’t busy enough, Pinecrest had 35 rental properties that I maintained, and we developed, marketed and sold food products to grocery stores.
After Pinecrest, I went to work for Hartwell Marina and Boat Sales in Hartwell, GA. I started as the Sales Manager then became General Manager. At Hartwell Marina, I planned and carried out several large events each year and ran the day-to-day operation of a full-service marina. In 2018, I helped design, layout, and open an on-premise restaurant.
After 20 years at Hartwell Marina, my wife, Kathy, and I decided it was time for a change and a little more time for us and less stress for me. So, after coming to Greenville regularly for 37 years for food shows, shopping, theater shows, family, and restaurants, we decided to sell everything and move to a condo in Downtown Greenville.
